Terms of Service

1. Introduction

Welcome to Laio. By accessing or using our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. These services are operated and provided by Media52 BV.

2. Service Description

Laio provides AI-assisted investigative and journalistic tools. Our services include web scraping, document extraction, audio transcription, and generative AI synthesis to help professionals research and draft articles.

3. Beta Status Disclosure

Our service is currently in a beta stage. While we strive to provide reliable services, you acknowledge that:

  • Features may change without prior notice.
  • The service may experience interruptions or downtime.
  • Performance and capabilities may vary as we optimize our systems.

4. AI Limitations and User Responsibilities

4.1 AI Capabilities and Limitations

Our AI services utilize advanced generative AI technology that:

  • May produce incorrect, incomplete, or misleading information ("hallucinations").
  • Can generate different responses to similar inputs.
  • Has limitations in factual accuracy and current information.

4.2 User Responsibilities

You agree to:

  • Not use our services for critical applications without appropriate human verification.
  • Exercise professional judgment when using AI-generated content.
  • Not rely on our services for legal, medical, financial, or other professional advice.
  • Comply with the EU AI Act and other applicable regulations when implementing our services.

5. Account Registration and Security

You must:

  • Provide accurate information when registering (via your Identity Provider).
  • Maintain the confidentiality of your login credentials.
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access.
  • Be at least 16 years old or have parental consent.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use our services to:

  • Violate laws or regulations or infringe intellectual property rights.
  • Harass, abuse, or harm others.
  • Generate harmful, illegal, or unethical content.
  • Reverse engineer or attempt to extract our AI models.
  • Attempt to bypass usage limitations, scrapers, or security measures.

7. Intellectual Property

7.1 Our Intellectual Property

The Laio platform, including software, design, and underlying technology, is owned by Media52 BV and protected by intellectual property laws.

7.2 Content Ownership

You retain full ownership of your input data (audio, text, documents). We only process this data as necessary to provide you with our services and as explicitly requested by you. Any processing is performed solely to deliver the functionality you've requested and to maintain service quality, in accordance with our Privacy Policy. We make no claim to ownership or usage rights beyond what is required to fulfill our service obligations to you.

8. Credit System and Payment Terms

8.1 Subscriptions and Credits

Our services operate on a subscription and credit-based system:

  • New users receive a limited one-time trial credit balance.
  • Continued usage requires an active subscription, billed monthly.
  • Usage of our services deducts from your available credits based on the intensity of the request (e.g., Fast mode vs. Deep mode).
  • Credits do not roll over to the next billing cycle.
  • Credits have no monetary value and cannot be exchanged for cash.
  • We reserve the right to modify the credit cost of services.

8.2 Top-ups and Refunds

If your subscription credits are depleted mid-cycle, you may purchase top-up credits. All payments for subscriptions and top-up credits are final and non-refundable.

Exception: If a system error prevents a research job from completing, credits for that specific job are automatically refunded to your balance.

8.3 Payment Processing

Payments are processed through our trusted third-party payment processor, Mollie. We do not store your complete payment information on our servers. All payments are subject to verification and approval.

9. Service Termination and Account Suspension

9.1 Termination by Us

We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to suspend or terminate your access, disable your account, or remove content if we determine you have violated these Terms, engaged in illegal activities, or abused our systems. No refund will be provided for unused credits in such cases.

9.2 Termination by You

You may cancel your subscription at any time via your account dashboard. Your access ends when the subscription stops at the end of your current billing cycle, or when your remaining credits run out, whichever comes first. Termination of your account does not entitle you to a refund.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • We provide services "as is" without warranties.
  • We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or punitive damages.
  • Our total liability shall not exceed the amount paid by you in the 12 months preceding the claim.

11. Compliance (GDPR & EU AI Act)

We are committed to processing personal data in accordance with the GDPR and developing our AI services in compliance with the EU AI Act. We are committed to transparency, risk management, and human oversight. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for details.

12. Governing Law

These terms are governed by Dutch law, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in the Netherlands.
